We recently installed what we believe is the best available commercial salt chlorine generator system to the swimming pool. A salt system improves the feel and condition of the water, it is environmentally friendlier and much more efficient than liquid chlorine, and it will not produce red eyes or itchy skin.
Salt is natural and economical and its conversion is energy efficient. The concentration in the swimming pool is about 3,200 parts per million. By comparison, the ocean is 35,000 ppm, contact lens saline solution is 6,000 ppm and the human body is about 4,000 ppm.
The process of sanitizing the pool water with salt takes place inside the special cells that are installed on the water return lines to the pool. The pool water containing the salt passes through these cells that have a small electric charge flowing through titanium electrolyte plates. The salt molecule (NaCL) is ionized and the chlorine molecule is separated and given off as pure chlorine gas which is 100% pure and does a much better job at destroying contaminants in the water.
